My friend, Lisa Parsons, is someone who is very special to me and I have known her for many years now. Lisa is from England and we have fun comparing our cultures. You might not think that our two countries would be that different, but you would be surprised. Some of the phrases they use just crack me up, and some of the things we say are humorous to them as well. Names for food is no different. From bangers, to bubble and squeak, to candy floss, to Branston Pickle. The food they eat really isn't that different from what we eat here in America, they just have funny names for their food. But, as Lisa would tell me about some of her favorite English treats, I was curious to try them for myself. I was pleasantly surprised to find a quaint little shop right here in Middle Georgia that has many of the things Lisa told me about.
The British Pantry and Tearoom is a wonderful place to go if you are interested in British foods. Ms. Jan Francis is owner of The British Pantry and Tearoom, and such a delight to talk with as you look around. She also prepares the food that is served in the tearoom, which is open Tuesdays-Saturday from 11:00-2:30. The shop has a great variety of treats including teas, sweets, meat pies, and so much more. The tearoom has a wonderful lunch menu. I had the Coronation Chicken, and it was delicious! So, if you are in, or near Centerville, Georgia; and want to try some home-cooked British food stop by The British Pantry and Tearoom at 100 Houston Lake Blvd, Suite U.
